Montr\u00e9al, April 16, 2025\u2014 <\/span><\/b>The 2025 edition of Gala SOCAN promises to be unforgettable, as SOCAN celebrates its 100<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary in style this year. On May 4, Montr\u00e9al\u2019s La\u202fTOHU will be the host of this prestigious event celebrating music creators and publishers from Qu\u00e9bec and the rest of Canada\u2019s Francophone community. More than 100 trophies in 29 categories will be awarded to the artists and professionals who have made the music landscape what it is over the past two years.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will be hosted by the talented <\/span>Rebecca Makonnen <\/span><\/b>of Radio-Canada, while the brilliant <\/span>Chlo\u00e9 Lacasse<\/span><\/b> will be in charge of the musical direction of the gala promising wonderful surprise performances and musical tributes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2025 Gala SOCAN Special Achievement Awards for Exceptional Talents<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Cultural Impact Award<\/span><\/b> will go to <\/span>Muzion<\/span><\/b> for their seminal anthem <\/span>La\u202fVi Ti-Neg<\/span><\/i>, a song that had a profound impact on Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s music scene and will become the first hip-hop song to be awarded for Cultural Impact in the Gala\u2019s 34-year history.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The illustrious <\/span>Diane Juster <\/span><\/b>will be honoured with the <\/span>Lifetime Achievement Award<\/span><\/b> celebrating her exceptional career and her essential contribution to Francophone music and the rights of music creators.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For songwriting excellence, <\/span>Charlotte Cardin<\/span><\/b> will receive the <\/span>Songwriter of the Year \u2014 Performer<\/span><\/b> award while her partner in rhyme, <\/span>Jason Brando<\/span><\/b> will receive the <\/span>Songwriter of the Year \u2014 Non-Performer<\/span><\/b> award. Hit-making duo <\/span>Banx & Ranx<\/span><\/b>, known for their one-of-a-kind sonic signature, will receive the inaugural <\/span>Songwriter of the Year \u2014 Producer<\/span><\/b> award.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s <\/span>International Achievement Award <\/span><\/b>will be presented to<\/span> Kaytranada<\/span><\/b>, a songwriter and<\/span> artist whose influence has grown beyond Canada and is now global.<\/span> This recognition is especially meaningful, as it marks ten years since<\/span> he received his first career award, a SOCAN Electronic Music Award in 2015.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Film and TV music will also be celebrated, including <\/span>Cristobal Tapia de\u202fVeer<\/span><\/b> who will receive the <\/span>Screen Composer of the Year<\/span><\/b> award among other awards, for his acclaimed work on major international productions such as <\/span>The White Lotus<\/span><\/i>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still in the Special Achievement Award category, the important work of SOCAN\u2019s music publisher members will be celebrated by awarding the <\/span>Publisher of the Year<\/span><\/b> title.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each of the Special Achievement Award winners will receive \u201cThe SOCAN,\u201d the first and only major music industry trophy that is also a musical instrument. This year, the trophy\u2019s five crotales will be tuned to play the first five notes of Muzion\u2019s \u201cLa\u202fVi Ti-Neg\u201d\u2019s melody.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Honouring the Boundless Spirit of Musical Creativity<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 4<\/span>th<\/span>, several awards will be presented to the many outstanding screen composers whose exceptional creativity has left a lasting impression on television and in movie theatres, both at home and abroad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SOCAN\u2019s Francophone, Anglophone and International Pop Music Awards will be presented to the most popular songs of the past two years, and the winners of Special Award categories will be announced, including:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
