The Québec music community is dynamic and talented and must continue to thrive. SOCAN recognizes and understands the specific challenges it faces. We are on the right track and we will get there together.

It is more important than ever that Québec creations be visible and discoverable and SOCAN has worked tirelessly to defend the interests of its members in Ottawa and to get Bill C-11 passed. Streaming services must contribute to Québec’s culture by participating in programs like Musicaction and the Canada Music Fund. They must foster songwriting in Québec and promote these creations on their platforms. That is how Québec’s culture will carry on and thrive.
These changes are vital to support this and future generations of Québec writers, composers and publishers.
As for us, I can assure you that we are fully committed to our mission to license the use of our members’ music, to collect the money due to them, and pay them the royalties they have earned for their work. I couldn’t be prouder of the way our employees have come together over the past three challenging years to meet the needs of our members, help them navigate an ever-changing landscape, and ensure that they are fairly compensated for their extraordinarily valuable work.
We are convinced that together, we can accomplish great things.
This 33rd edition will be a great opportunity to look back with appreciation and gratitude on the major players of the past while also celebrating the ever-increasing success of current creators.

Paul Piché has become one of the most influential songwriters on the Francophone music scene. A freethinker, poet and standard-bearer of protest folk, he sings as much about love as about the social issues that are important to him. Paul has created an impressive body of songs in our musical heritage and his music continues to be sung by countless artists.
